Apollo Group TV on Android phone & tablet
Setting up on an Android phone or tablet is the quickest route in, and it doubles as a way to test your account before configuring a TV device. This guide also covers casting to a television and avoiding an unexpected mobile data bill.

Before you start
- An Android phone or tablet running a currently supported version of Android.
- Your Apollo Group TV account details from your confirmation email.
- A Wi-Fi connection for setup — the first channel-list download is large.
- Roughly 100MB of free storage for the player app and its channel data.
Setting up on Android phone & tablet
- Open the Google Play Store. On your phone or tablet, open the Play Store and search for a compatible IPTV player app, or the app named in your welcome email.
- Install the player app. Install it from the Play Store rather than an APK from a web link. Sideloaded copies of popular players are a common malware vector, and you gain nothing by avoiding the store on a phone.
- Sign in with your account details. Open the app and enter the credentials or activation code from your confirmation email. Copy and paste from the email rather than retyping, to avoid transcription errors.
- Wait for the channel list to sync. The app downloads the full channel and on-demand list on first launch. Do this on Wi-Fi — it is a sizeable download.
- Set a mobile data limit. In the player app settings, cap the streaming quality when on mobile data, or restrict background data for the app in Android Settings → Apps → Mobile data. Live video will consume a data allowance quickly otherwise.
- Cast to a TV if you want the bigger screen. Open the quick settings panel and choose Cast or Smart View, then pick your TV or streaming device. For regular TV viewing, installing on the TV device directly is more reliable than casting.
Keep your details private. Your login works on up to 5 devices. Sharing it beyond your own household can lock you out. Nobody from Apollo Group TV will ever ask for your password by message, or ask for remote access to this device.
Troubleshooting on Android phone & tablet
The app crashes on launch after signing in
Clear the app cache in Android Settings → Apps → your player → Storage → Clear cache, then reopen and let the channel list download again. Clear storage entirely only as a last resort, since it removes your login.
Video stutters on mobile data but is fine on Wi-Fi
Lower the stream quality in the player settings when on mobile. Live streams need consistent throughput, and a variable mobile connection struggles at the highest quality.
My data allowance disappeared
Live video is data-hungry. Restrict the app to Wi-Fi only, or set a lower quality profile for mobile connections in the app settings.
Casting connects but the TV shows a black screen
Some players block casting of protected video. Install the player on the TV device itself — see our Android TV or Firestick guides — rather than casting from the phone.
Android phone & tablet questions
Should I install an APK from a website instead of the Play Store?
No. Modified copies of popular player apps distributed as APKs are a common way to deliver malware. Install from the Play Store. If a specific app is genuinely unavailable there, contact support before sideloading anything.
Does watching on my phone use one of my device slots?
Yes. Each simultaneous stream counts against your plan limit, whether it is a phone, tablet or TV.
Can I download content to watch offline?
Live channels cannot be downloaded, since they are broadcast streams. Offline availability for on-demand titles depends on the player app you choose.
